Nearly every country and government found the early days of the pandemic an enormous challenge. Little was known about COVID-19 and how it spread. Guidelines which seemed reasonable at the time proved not enough to contain the COVID-19 virus, which we now know to be much more infectious than SARS was.
This article paints a vivid picture of how these factors contributed to the disease’s rapid spread in one Italian province. These are also valuable and important lessons to learn, so that we don’t get caught out by a resurgence of COVID-19, or another future new virus.
Singapore learned a great deal from the SARS outbreak, and we will learn from COVID-19. All countries must heed these lessons as well, so that we will be better prepared the next time. – LHL
